It should have been called forward motion and the ball should have been placed at that point with the half ending. No touchdown.

The officials were so wrapped up in determining whether it was a forward pass that they missed the forward motion call.

i have Moss on my fantasy team - and am a broncos fan. what a play. i gotta laugh out of this: on nfl.com they call it a 59-yard moe williams td and the clueless guys at yahoo call it a moss 50-yard td. when all is said and done - it will be about a 15-yard moe td.

100% disagree with BGo - it was a clean td!

wonder how many first half bets were won/lost on that one play!

winky:

Moss went backward 3 to 4 yards after catching the ball before lateraling. At what point should it be called forward motion? Seven yards, eight yards?

as i said - i am a diehard broncos' fan - but what moss did was NOT illegal. you can back up as far as you want - as long as the "pass" is behind you - it is 100% legal.

I see where you're coming from winky. Yes, the lateral was 100% legal since it was passed backward. We both agree.

My point is that when a player is pushed back 3 or 4 yards he should be called down due to forward progress. Once he has been called down, if he throws a legal lateral the ball is still down at the point that forward motion is called and cannot be advanced by another player.
